About

Background

Jared has always had a love of imagery, photography, videos and films… since being 5 years old he wanted to be a National Geographic magazine photographer.  He pursued his innocent dreams and graduated from the University of Colorado in Boulder, with a Bachelor degree in Studio Arts for Film Photography and Computer Imaging, 1998.

BHImages was later started by Jared Brick after 3 years of working for the prestigious Aspen Skiing Company, solely running their events photography division for them.  He then moved to Santa Cruz, California in 2000 and began his own freelance work as assistant photo editor with Adventure Sports Journal. Over the years Jared grew Brick House Images with online and print publications, private gallery work and even delved into the video production world.  In 2003, he ventured over to Thailand and SE Asia to teach english and document unique cultures and a wild world!  Afterwards  he returned to the US with a renewed passion for photography and now documentary film. He has had numerous fine-art print showings of his work and also began custom private photography lessons.

Jared quickly realized a growing need for education in this digital arena and thus used his teaching skills developed in SE Asia to inspire others. He has now taught hundreds of people of all ages, mostly in the SF Bay Area and now lives in Berkeley, CA.  Jared’s private lessons have grown to featured online classes and his freelance work is well regarded.  Purchases of his work and lessons help to continue a childhood dream into an adult’s reality.

Personal note from Jared

Aloha all and thanks for taking the time to visit my site.  I have been teaching students now for over 7 years and love the personal interaction with people. Watching their skills grow and seeing them get inspired, tackle issues as it keeps me personally motivated. I enjoy working with all levels of people and all ages.   I have an easy going way about teaching and I try to relate the complex information in an easy to remember fashion.   My freelance photography services provide a professional, creative, efficient way to capture events, weddings, portraits, landscapes, adventures and life!

Help! I am in desperate need of how to use my Speedlights (800 and 900) for outdoor and indoor (but not “studio”) family portrait sessions with my Nikon 7000. I really, really take terrible “lit” pics!!! Have scheduled family photos to shoot at my school, do OK with natural light generally but am beyond challenged with the flash… know why I need it, just can’t figure out how to use it! Thank you so much. BJ
